| 1. Remove storm windows and screens as necessary.
2. Wash the surface to remove dirt, mildew and chalky residue with Extra Muscle Prepaint Cleaner. Clean from the bottom up. Five ounces of Prepaint Cleaner added to a 3:1 mix of water and Clorox kills mildew while it cleans. Allow the Clorox solution to remain on the surface for 15 minutes. Rinse the surface thoroughly and allow to dry.
3. Remove and replace damaged trim and siding as necessary. Remove areas of dry rot. Nails that are protruding should be hammered flush to the surface.
4 Remove existing coatings that are not tightly adhered by scraping and sanding with 36-80 grit sandpaper. Sand edges of remaining paint films smooth with 100 grit.
5. Dull glossy surfaces by scuff sanding.
6. Remove caulk that has split or separated from the surface with a utility knife and scraper. Smooth roughened areas with 100 grit sandpaper.
7. Protect areas not to be painted with drop cloths and masking tape.
8. Prime all bare wood and areas to be caulked or spackled with BU-1501 Sure Grip Primer.
9. Seal all junctures around window frames, doors, chimneys and where dissimilar materials meet with Diamond Vogel Siliconized Acrylic Caulk.
10. Fill dents and nail holes with exterior spackling. Allow spackling to dry, sand smooth with 100 grit sandpaper and spot prime.
11. Paint may vary in color slightly from batch to batch. Try to purchase the same batch for the entire job and intermix buckets of paint to insure color uniformity.
12. Apply all coats of paint to one side of the house before moving to the next. Begin at the highest point and apply the body color. Finish by painting the trim. Paint continuously between architectural breaks.
13. Apply one coat of the body color of Permacryl Exterior at the rate of 275 sq. ft. per gallon. Do not overspread the paint. Acrylic latexes brush and roll very easily and can be easily overspread. The life of your paint job depends upon adequate film build. A second coat is recommended to insure proper film thickness, complete coverage and to gain the greatest return on your investment in surface preparation.
Important Guidelines: Allow surfaces to dry before painting, caulking or spackling. In addition, a surface temperature greater than 50° F. should exist when painting and for eight hours after the paint is applied. Do not paint if rain is threatening.
